Replying to ID: 2233 to begin with. Waheed jan doesn't depend on music and he is not playing music to make a living out of it. He has a profession. He is a "honor" degree graduate from one of the most reputed university of the world and now he is a teacher. Apart from his outstanding academic records, he is blessed with talent in variety of music styles. Like I mentioned before he isn't following this route for living he is playing and singing because it is his passion, and when people does something with passion they do it with their heart and soul. I personally like his voice and his music and I know of many many more people who does like his music, voice, character and his personality. We applaude him for his dedication for taking time out from his busy schedule to offer/share his talent with us. For the last 20 years or so I have listened to Afghani singers and musicians and it is pathetic to listen to some singers who sing Irani or Arabic song in Afghani style and accent. I can't imagine of anything worse than it. We need more vocalists like Waheed jan...besides performing Afghani music he can also sing Arabic and Irani songs with all the details and with great deal of perfection. It can't get any more closer to the original songs. I sincerely think we should respect him and his talent. Besides, he is a teacher and people learn from teachers. I did from my teacher and so did many many more from their teachers...and I hope ID: 2233 also did.

Sadly, I am getting used to garbage talk from some of our not so "model" Afghans...unfortunate, but we have to live with it. I am proud that we have bright people like yourselves in our community.
Last...I have a world of respect for Marhoom Ahmad Zahir and I would never poke fun at him at any cost. I like his music and wanted to sing one his songs with a different style.

People like you who sit on their ass all day and bring others down piss the hell out of me. I don't agree with the fact the Waheed Soroor sang copies, but he sang with different styles and at least he put something out. I commend him for that. I hoped you would know this simple fact that brothers don't have different lastnames. Soroor and Jahed are two different family names, although I wished I had a talented brother like Waheed jan. Now here is one thing I noticed in our community. I hope I don't get bombarded and riddled with hate words but this is my finding. I love Ahmad Zahir's voice and songs dearly, but some of us has taken it too far. Some of us treat him as he were a prophet or so...now don't get me wrong here. Some narrow-minded people think that even singing Ahmad Zahir's song is commiting a big crime. If that was the case then no one would ever sing Ahmad Zahir's song, or Farhad Darya's or Zahir Howaida's or any other singers' for that matter. My point is singing a singer's song is expressing admiration toward that individual's work and art, in this case Ahmad Zahir's...I don't see logically why you would call it mocking or making fun of Ahmad Zahir.
As a matter of fact listening to Ahmad Zahir's songs being sang more often is even better...it is a tribute and memory refreshment of audience of having had such a great singer, Ahmad Zahir.
Now I clearly see why our country is way way behing and is still going the wrong direction...I guess lots and lots of tunnel visioned and narrow minded people that aren't open to any ideas, suggestions, inventions and blah blah.... No chance for advancement, progress or development. What a pity.

This comment that you wrote is much more thoughtfull and intellegent...you gave me the wrong impression about yourself with your first comment. I want to point out a couple of things...when I can to Canada, I did not speak English at all and I never claim that I speak it well, but I am proud that I teach Canadian Kids and you should be as well.
You mention Habib Qaderi and making his own songs, brother Jaan, think about that...most of his songs are copies of older songs. Like Haroon Jaan said, if I sing copies of someone else's songs, it is because I like their style and for Ahmad Zahir, it keeps his name alive for eternitiy. I love his songs and will sing more of them in the future.
Brother Jaan, I am open to discuss anything, accept suggestions, as long as it is done in a civilized way. You may not like my music, but I know of many who do and thats OK!!! You cannot like every singer or every song out there.
Last you talk about changing our music...I am actually doing the complete opposite. I am trying to go back to the music we had before the Indians influenced our music...please contact someone from Anjumane Ahyaye Moseqee-e Kohan-e Afghanistan. I had added modern beats to make it more energetic and dancy. Our TRUE AFGHAN music is very similar to the music of the middle east not INDIA...and this is a fact.

I totally agree with you that some of Habib Qaderi’s songs are copies, but the videos he has produced all are his own! And by mentioning him I didn’t mean to underline the fact that he’s the best..!
I respect all my AFGHAN SINGERS – and they all are “BEST” in their ways…!

The reason i mentioned Habib Qaderi and his videos - wasn't to express that all he makes are his own or the best.. what i was trying to say, was that all the videos he has maked are his own - which means that the songs has been written by (him self - NOT SURE ABOUT THAT????) or someone else - and he's the first singer who sing the song!

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but like many young Afghans you are very "Ehsasaati"...which I hope you will grow out of. Let me tell you who sang some of those songs that you mentioned. Wro Wro was made by Ustad Zakhail and sang by his wife Qamar Gul, Dukhtare Amo Jaan is a folk Herati song sang by Shahrawaan in Kabul...if you don't have your facts straight, you make a fool of yourself. AND I took permission before singing those songs. YOU SAID YOU LIKE TO SING...PLEASE RELEASE AN ALBUM OF YOUR OWN AND LET ME JUDGE YOU!
Also, if you take the time and read your own history, Afghanistan is where the base for music in the entire Muslim world was laid...that said my style is AUTHENTIC.
My brother do me a favour and please don't leave any more comments here!!! Your taste is obviously very different and that is OK...you cannot like everyone. Please do something else with your time. If you think my CD is all copy and not done well, please go and buy one of thousands of other CDs...enough people have bought my CD.

Waheed Jaan i think singing is a very serious businessa and everyone who has the guts to sing in Sur should sing.I think your voice is really out of tone and i don't think you should really waist your time writing text online because you should be working more on your voice.
There are so many singers currently in the Afghan community who sing BAISUR and you are one of them.
You should take this very positively and work on your voice.
I think the only singer who has a lot of music knowledge and who sing in SUR is Najim Jaan and you all should try to listen to his songs to learn how to express the song properly and most importantly sing in SUR.

I read your comments and while appreciating your intrest and passion for Late Ahmad Zahir's music, I just want to convey my point of view that it is not always a destruction of a master- piece if you re- create it. For example we had NAAZI JAAN sung by late Ustad Qassem 50 years ago, but most of people had forgotten about it until Wajiha Rastgaar and then Qader Eshpari sang the same song with different music. It got that popular that even Iranian Singers sang it. So do you still think it was a destruction of that song or infact resurrection of it?
At the end, I once again agree with you that Ahmad Zahir is an evergreen singer and will never been forgotten, neither his songs. So let's take all copies of his songs as tribute to his work.

First of all thanks for the Feedback. Secondly, would I say an very good example you have point out - at this point I must confess that it was/is a success for them who copied the song and it wasn't a destruction of that song...!!!
But you have forgotten one very important fact - which is the vigour and time that Ustad Qassem Had spent on writting that song - regrettably, Wajiha Rastgaar and Qader Eshpari nominated as the singer and very "talentfull" ( THAT'S WHAT I CALL A DESTRUCTION - AND NOT A RE-CREATE LIKE U SAY)....
I'm almost sure about that if you ask our afghan people who made the song some would answer QADER and some would say WAJIHA - and to not forget our "modern afghan" - they would say FARHAD SHAMS !!!!
Let's be agreed at some facts, that the majority of our AFGHAN people don't really care about what the singers sing about - they just want music to dance to - and to underline the point, most of our afghans don't play music self - many of them don't know what kind of instruments being use in the song they listning to!!! AND THAT'S WHAT MAKE REASON, THAT WE HAVE SO MANY SINGERS WHO JUST SING COPY SONGS - AND DON'T REALLY UP TO WRITE THEIR OWN SONGS - BECAUSE PEOPLE BUY THEIR CDS ANYWAY.!!! And the "instrument(s)" singers use today is no comparison with instruments AHMAD ZAHIR AND SOME OTHER SINGERS used.
Dear brother like you had written that you wanted to convey your point of view - so the same did I...!!! And if you still like to listen to copy songs and want our afghan singers to make copies of OLD-AFGHANI MUSIC - than you and i don't have anything to discuss about... because to see it from your point of view everyone can becomes a singer as long they copy with different music and style... once again thanks for reply.

singer is someone who sings songs. If they sing copy or not, they are still singers and represent out country. We should be proud of them. If we go with your point of view, then we have no singers in Afghanistan. Every one sing copies.

Unfortunately, I have no other choice my brother. This series of copy- singing has been started since I was not even in this world. As I mentioned last time, our legendary singers did not mind copy- singing. So why should I mind listening to those? When the Legendary Ahmad Wali copies late Ahmad Zahir's song (For example AY PAADSHA-E-KHOBBAN), when Farhad Darya copies (HAR JAA KE SAFAR KARDAM), (DUKHTAR-E-AMO JAN), (YAKAK YAAR-E-DAARUM AZ SHAIKH ALI YA) and recently (BIBI WELAAYAT originally sung by Fawad Raamez althought the original composition is done by Farhad Darya) Or Wajiha Rastgaar copies (SETAARA-E-BALBALI) Nobody complains that they copy.
… We pay singers to come to our parties and sing copies. Why we don’t instead play the original songs and dance? Do you think it is possible to dance with NAAZI JAAN HAMDAM-E-MAN sung by Late Ustaad Qaassem? But as you pointed out one thing very good that the original song and singer should be remembered, mentioned and introduced before copying.
My MAIN POINT OF VIEW was we should not target only new singers. Copying is a long time running process and to me everyone from the legends to the new ones is responsible for it, IF YOU THINK IT (COPYING) IS BAD.
Re- creation (Destruction in your term) is also a time consuming process and requires lots of work.

Hi I would just like to say that Waheed jan is an amazing singer his voice is awsome and he sings all songs very well, whether it his his or copied, he does a wonderful job singing them, i have to say even better then the original artists and for thsoe putting him down saying he needs to find another way to make money...he is a qualified teacher with a high level of education and he is doing this not for the money but beucase he loves singing, not only is he educated but he is very respectful to the young and the old and holds a good reputation....please if you people dont have anything good to say...PLEASE dont say anything at all...its so sad rather then encouraging our fellow afghans for their accomplishments and hard work we are putting them down...even in a civilized non violent country like canada, afghans still find a way to battle one another....

A very fine and foot tapping music , great work bro.
The fact that you can sing in different languages and people can't tell makes your music better and appealing not to afghans but other communities too and our people should comment you well on it and be proud.
I was searching for some dance songs for a friend's party in sydney and someone lent me your album , well it got played mroe than once at the party and was liked by all other afghans as well.
Can't wait for the next album.( one of my greek and the other lebanese friend luv your arabic song)

I would like to first of all tell you that your music is awesome, i love all of your songs and how you made it into your own style its really nice and modern. your songs such as hazra and dukhtar amu jaan truly makes me dance when i listen to it. I am waiting for your new CD to come out bakhair. What i don't understand is that why are all these people who hate your music even bother to reply to the reviews...they just want to show other people what kind of human beings they are with no respect what so ever. listening to the negative and positive feedback from people is what makes a singer successful. i have been at parties where waheed has sang. He rocks. Go ask anyone. Maybe you are deaf or you don't recognize waheed jaan and you were listening to some garbage singer. My guess is you are another singer who is really jealous of him. I am getting married next year and guess who is playing at my wedding...waheed of course. He has class and he kicks ass in pashto, farsi, irani, hindi, english.

There is no doubt that Waheed Jaan-e Soroor will one day become a popular singer INSHALLAH....
But one thing i really don't get, that u all fans keep writting that mr. W. Soroor is PROFESSOR and music is his HOBBY...!!!
Well, then i have this question for AFGHANGIRL75 and all others who keep saying that mr. Soroor sings not for living but enjoying his hobby....
Now that he has been in many parties and concerts,,, has he enjoyed his hobby by being there or he has taken MONEY for given that concert or being at that party?????
I'm very very certain about this that he has a prize.... and that's not called Hobby.... I call it TRADE!!!!!
My dear afghan music lover.... this is our job to support all the musicians we have, but not when they bring os others work COPYING.... I do respect alot mr soroor and his artistry and i'm sure that the day he finds his own style - he reachs the top.... i wish him the best of luck with alot of success.
